The Geniis will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at the Skirball Cultural Center as AWM SoCal honors some of the finest women in media!

Actress Rita Moreno will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award; Eva La Rue will receive the Inspiration Award; Amy Powell will be recognized for Excellence in New Media; Sandra Mitchell — Excellence in Television; Charese Fruge — Excellence in Radio Management; Talaya Trigueros — Excellence in Radio; and Kathy Begley — Excellence in Advertising.

The evening’s festivities will be hosted by actor Sean Kanan.

There will be a silent auction, complimentary green screen photography, and a chocolate tasting. Each guest will also receive a parting gift from OPI and PONG.

The Role of Mentorship for Women in Tech

The Alliance for Women in Media, Southern California Chapter, is pleased to announce that Eva La Rue has been named as the recipient of the organization’s 2012 Inspiration Award.

La Rue is a Southern California native, and is currently an actress on CSI Miami. The Inspiration Award acknowledges her role as spokesperson for Beckstrand Cancer Foundation.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that while Facebook has found monumental success as a general social network based on building a network of friends, Pinterest has quickly carved a niche as a social network based on finding and sharing topics users are passionate about. Women are driving the site’s explosion.

Marilou McFarlane Joins CBS Radio Altitude Group

Radio Ink reports that Marilou McFarlane joins Altitude Group as vice president of strategic partnerships for the West Coast. She’ll be responsible for creating unique advertising programs to help grow client brands and customer engagement.

McFarlane has developed media campaigns for brands including American Airlines, Bank of America and GlaxoSmithKline. She’s worked for CBS before at the company’s all-news station in San Francisco. She began her career as a regional sales and marketing manager for Turner Broadcasting.
